Is Climate Change activism a woke 1st World rite of passage? (Part 1) The Black Spy Podcast, Season 10, Episode 0008 Clearly climate change is a global issue that affects people from all walks of life and across different regions, so why does the Western and indeed much of the global media concentrate on what Western ‘activists’ do? It is undoubtedly a truism that climate protests have gained significant attention in developed countries, such as the Global North, it might be inaccurate to dismiss protest as simply the preserve of the trendy or privileged Global North. Although the privileged North political and military systems historically stole most of the worlds resources, those in other regions also see the dangers. Climate change poses severe threats to the environment, ecosystems, and human societies worldwide. Indeed, the impacts of climate change are already being felt by vulnerable communities, particularly those in developing countries. Therefore, climate protests are a means for people to voice their concerns, demand action from governments and corporations, and raise awareness about the urgency of addressing climate change. It is important to recognize that climate activism and awareness are not limited to any specific group or region albeit, have more opportunity in their daily lives to protest as food etc, is for them much easier to come by. That said, People from all around the world, including those in developing countries, are actively engaged in climate advocacy, participating in protests where possible and pushing for sustainable solutions. The fight against climate change requires global cooperation and inclusive participation from all nations, regardless of their socio-economic status. However, what is true is that activists in the Global South pay a real price for their actions, whereas their comrades in the North are generally saved from any significant actual deprivations.
