Jesus told his disciples in the gospel of John that they knew the Holy Spirit though the world could not accept Him. On the day of Pentecost, they were filled mightily with the Holy Spirit and brought in a harvest of three thousand souls. These new believers were filled with the Holy Spirit as life, blessing, and peace marked the early church. However, taking a look at the Corinthian church, the Holy Spirit initially moved in a mighty way as well yet we see division, quarreling, and debauchery. Two churches built upon Christ as the Holy Spirit moved, yet one was thriving and blessed and the other was at a standstill and collapsing from within. Quenching, resisting, and grieving the Holy Spirit has consequences; but knowing Him, submitting to Him, and being filled with Him glorifies Christ and leads to much blessing. The early church in Acts is a model for all believers to follow.
