Season I – Fri, 25 August 2023 INTRODUCTIONWelcome, fellow true-crime enthusiasts, to today’s case file: “Murder in Modesto – Laci and Connor Peterson Go Missing – This is part 3 of a 6-part series that will take a deep dive into the murders of Laci Peterson and her unborn child, Connor Peterson; and the first-degree murder trial of Scott Peterson. Laci’s Last DayIn 2002, Modesto, California was a town struggling with a national recession that began in 2001.  Less than 100 miles south of San Francisco, Modesto, a small agricultural city sat in the valley, between Stockton, California to the North and Fresno to the South.  Unemployment was growing as the burst of the Silicon Valley Tech Bubble impacted the community negatively.  Modesto was dealing with population growth, and with that, a growing homelessness problem that was bleeding over from the Bay Area.  Modesto has long been known as the car theft capital of the world and had its fair share of crime plaguing the residents due to the growing cost of living and the income disparity between the wealthy and the poor.  The community was not prepared for what was coming. Scott and Laci Peterson landed somewhere in the middle, financially.  Scott had accepted a job with TradeCorp USA after college, selling fertilizer in a regional location that was predominantly focused on agriculture making $60K a year.  Laci worked as a substitute teacher making less than $30K a year.  She was however focused on starting a family and Conner would be their first child.  Scott should have been a
