Coming out as a gay man in the 1990’s was hard. Many know that coming out is a very stressful time but combining coming out, divorce, custody issues and losing everything is more than traumatic! Here is my “Coming Out Story”."Salt, Pepper, Flour, Lard" Great-Grandma Started by Ralph and Helen Wagner in 1968. Their grandson, Dan, now carries on the tradition of frying young, local, chickens in 14" cast iron skillets and lard, a method that was brought to Indiana out of the hollers of Eastern Kentucky decades ago. It is the oldest known form of frying chicken and dates to 1700s England. This small Indiana restaurant has won a big honor in the world of cooking. Wagner’s in Oldenburg has been awarded a James Beard Award in the American Classics category. The awards are given annually to "locally owned restaurants that have timeless appeal and are beloved regionally for quality food that reflects the character of their community." Carriage House Antiques is in the historic German village of Oldenburg, Indiana. Our antiques are housed in a historic 1850's bank building. The owners have been involved with antiques for over 42 years and our inventory ranges from 18th century to mid-20th century antiques and collectibles. We are known for having unique and significant historic antiques. If you do happen to stop in, we also sell scoops and pints of Sister Cleo's Homemade Ice Cream that our staff makes on site like our new flavor of the month each month! "The best Homemade Ice Cream this side of heaven!" promises Sister Cleo.
