As we begin to study the doctrine of justification, we take a detour in order to study the law of God. Justification has much to do with the law, and it's critical to understand what the law can and cannot do. In this study, we begin looking at the three lawful uses of the moral law, by examining the first use of the law -the pedagogical use-, which shows sinners their sinfulness and condemnation, in order to drive them to Christ for grace. We also look at the misuse of the law, where false religions assert salvation by works of the law, or a mixture of grace and works.
