Matthew 4:16-17, 18 teach us that the first thing that Jesus Christ taught, as he completed his 40 day fast in the wilderness and just before he called His apostles, was repentance. Think of it, the very first thing that He taught. Understanding what repentance is and what it is not, is one of the foundations of Last week we discussed a few of the roadblocks and barriers to repentance. Have you ever asked these questions?· What is the relationship between suffering and repentance?· Is repentance part of the punishment for sin?· Is repentance a checklist? Repentance is wonderful. It is even relieving. It is not easy, but living in sin is even more difficult, painful, and despairing. Repentance is how can we get the powers and blessings of Jesus Christ through his atonement and his atoning blood into our lives. Including the enabling power to even help us keep the commandments. You just might leave today’s discussion with a completely different view of and attitude towards repentance.
