Return to Center for Metal Arts with Patrick Quinn

Once I again I made the trek to the incredible Center for Metal Arts in Johnstown, PA to teach a Weekend Workshop. I was greeted by my friend Pat Quinn, the Executive Director of CMA and I had another inspiring time there. How could you not? Every time I come down I see the forward momentum Pat and his team are making, restoring giant utility hammers, creating new curriculum, and uncovering buried areas of the buildings to expose visitors to this incredible Campus. We had a great Episode early in the morning over coffee recapping what’s new and what’s to come. September 16th is the 2023 Cabria Iron Conference where the public will be able to have the rare experience of watching a Hammer Team forge giant steel elements designed by an artist. This year Pete Mattila, a Tasmanian Blacksmith and Sculptor will be leading the team and the pieces forged, will be used in a Masterclass the next week for a large installation. This is an amazing opportunity to see giant hammers running with a skilled team of Craftsmen running them. Pat is so driven and forward thinking. His devotion to the school and its relationship with the local community is admirable and I always leave inspired to learn and get back in my own shop. If you have the chance get on the CMA newsletter to see what Classes are coming up and definitely go to the Cambria Iron Conference.
