Safe spaces: Boundaries, accountability, vulnerability and kindness in Tech - Candice
In this episode of the Mental Health in Tech podcast, hosts Schalk Neethling and Schalk Venter engage in an open discussion with guest Candice Grobler. In this episode, Candice shares some of her journey of showing vulnerability and being honest with her employer during a particularly challenging time in her life. The outcome was not what she had hoped and made her question the role of an employer in supporting and making affordances for those living with mental illness and those going through a hard time in their lives.
We discuss the lost human potential when those living with mental illness are excluded from the workforce simply because employers choose the path of least resistance. We question why society has become so afraid of vulnerability and why honest conversations about mental health are often avoided. We also highlight the importance of kindness towards oneself and others and the transformative power of meditation and share some helpful resources. We touch on sensitive topics as part of this podcast. Those topics can include mental illness, depression, suicide ideation, death, and related mental health and mental illness topics. We understand that these subjects can be sensitive and may be triggering for some individuals. We encourage you to prioritize your well-being and mental health while listening. If you feel overwhelmed or need support, please get in touch with a mental health professional or a helpline in your country. Remember, you are not alone, and there is help available.
