Similes and Metaphors The opening song, Love is Like an Itching in my Heart by the Supremes leads us into this week’s theme of SIMILIES and METAPHORS. Both these figures of speech are well used in popular music and we introduce you to a few. Similies compare two different things and commonly use the word “like” as the link, as highlighted in Bob Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone, the Four Seasons’  Walk Like a Man and the Steve Miller Band’s Fly Like an Eagle. Metaphors on the other hand make the comparison by stating that something is something else. Examples of metaphors are evident in the Monkees’ Cuddly Toy, Colleen Hewitt’s Wind Beneath My Wings and Lesley Gores’ Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.   PLAYLIST Love is Like an Itching in my Heart – Supremes I am a Rock – Simon & Garfunkel Cuddly Toy – Monkees Like a Rolling Stone – Bob Dylan Love and Other Bruises – Air Supply Fly Like an Eagle – Steve Miller Band Raining in my Heart – Tony Worsley Walk Like a Man – 4 Seasons Just Like Romeo and Juliet – Mental as Anything Wind Beneath my Wings – Colleen Hewitt Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows – Lesley Gore The post Similes and Metaphors appeared first on Yesterday Once More.
