Tay Does Life with Erica - Foster Care, University and Being in the 6%
This podcast was a well overdue conversation. Erica has been a friend of mine since my first week at university. She speaks openly about her journey into foster care and how she managed university as a young person from foster care.I really appreciate her time and I always find it interesting speaking to other young people in foster care about there journey. We briefly speak about the homelessness and suicide statistics (of young people in foster care) - In the first four years after aging out of foster care, approximately 20% of former foster youth will experience homelessness. LINKNationally, approximately 29% of youth without housing between the ages of 13 and 25 have spent time in foster care. LINKIn one study, children in foster care were almost four times more likely to have considered suicide and almost four times more likely to have attempted suicide than those who had never been in foster care.
