The Battlelines Drawn

In this message, we discuss the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus was tempted the entire 40 days, but only 3 temptations are recorded by both Matthew and Luke. The order of the temptations is different, probably owing the purpose the evangelists. This confrontation with Satan was necessary to establish Jesus and the second Adam. He was victorious over the devil, earning Him the right to pursue the establishment of the Kingdom of God. -Satan sought to get Jesus to act independently of God by doing something for Himself. Jesus responded with the Word of God, showing that everything in life must be governed by Word and will of God.
