Miss Frances Garnet-Orme, and her travelling companion, arrive to stay. Miss Orme is a noted spiritualist, and her companion has some local fame as a crystal gazer and clairvoyant. Unexpectedly, the companion leaves and Miss Orme is found murdered a few days later in a locked room. The absconded companion, who had been very vocally predicting her imminent death for weeks before, gets everything from the wealthy spinster.
