Ever since Oli Boyer was a child, they had been experimenting with a gamut of mediums and art practices. It began with pencil drawings which led to mixed media sculptures. Boyer's work has always been a way to communicate with the world, an alternative to difficulties verbalizing thoughts. This grew with age as they experienced more issues with their identity and physical body. Boyer wants us to see the deeper relations of the materials used in the work. They create art that communicates aspects of emotional or physical self-exploration through physical materials, allowing the audience to empathize with and draw their own connections. Many of Boyer's pieces embody highly charged experiences that are difficult to articulate in words. In this interview, we dive into this and their transformation.
