Two Judgments: The Fate of Believers and Unbelievers Before God
In the recent Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Josh Philpot and Dr. Richard Caldwell discussed the interpretation of 2 Corinthians 5 and Romans 14, where believers are said to stand before God's judgment seat. Dr. Caldwell clarified that while there are two judgments mentioned in the New Testament - one for unbelievers at the Great White Throne -Revelation- and another for believers at the Bema Seat of Christ - the nature of these judgments differ. Unbelievers are judged for their sins, leading to damnation without Christ. On the other hand, believers' sins have been atoned for by Christ, hence their judgment relates to their earthly works and deeds. Despite the seriousness of this judgment, it is essentially positive, focusing on what gains and rewards believers can achieve. Dr. Caldwell added that while there might be temporary sorrow for missed opportunities, this judgment won't diminish the joy and satisfaction of heaven. He emphasized that while believers' judgment is significant, it should instigate a meaningful life on earth rather than inducing dread for the afterlife.
