UN emergency relief teams head to Libya and Morocco + Ciné ONU this week
On the UN Roundup this week: 1) Libya and Morocco in the aftermath of natural disasters: Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator gave an update on the situation. A UN disaster coordination team had been deployed from Geneva. 2) As part of the Human Rights Council, an interactive dialogue with Sudan gave an oversight to the violence five months into the conflict, where at least 1,500 civilians had been killed and more than one million were seeking refuge in neighbouring countries. 3) Ciné ONU: Friday September 22 – showing "Fish Pirate”; an episode of the National Geographic series “Trafficked” with investigative journalist Mariana Van Zeller. The episode highlights that up to 30% of the world’s seafood has been caught illegally, and explores the underworld of illegal fishing, which destroys the ocean. Open to the public and free entry. The film will be followed by a panel discussion. https://www.ungeneva.org/en/ev....ents/2023/09/cine-on
