In Galatians 5:4, Paul warns against mixing the Law with the Gospel in an effort to achieve justification. He is cautioning specifically those who essentially strive to validate themselves through the rituals and regulations of the Law, that they will find Christ of "no benefit." Asserting that by doing so, they are attempting to secure justification through adherence to the law, leading them to be disconnected from Christ and to forfeit the grace they once enjoyed. Paul's purpose in writing to the Galatians was to forewarn them about the Judaizers, who sought to entice Christians who had experienced spiritual rebirth to revert to justification through adherence to the Law, a feat that is unattainable (Galatians 2:16). He reminds them of the liberty they have in Christ, and bondage of the law stating, "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery" (Galatians 5:1).
