Trap of microfinance| Agri Unplugged
Microfinance institutions have spread a lot in rural Maharashtra. These organizations distribute loans to poor families and needy people at the rate of 14 to 26 percent. Moreover, they reserve the right to charge compound interest if the loan installments are overdue. Therefore, the loan amount increases. However, in some rural areas of Marathwada and western Maharashtra, these financial institutions often give loans at 24 to 26 percent.
