Beneath thoughts and emotions are our "positions or postures" in life. These are our unconscious assumptions. They guide the emotions and thoughts that occur from them. One posture is that I will feel good when I accomplish my goal. By holding that posture one has to squelch their innate joy of Being which always feels good in order to wait until that task is fulfilled. This can include spiritual practices.
