Welcome to episode #132! This week, Matt and Braden chat with guest, Kristen Miele, about her new curriculum for parents called "Sex Ed Reclaimed."Purity Culture needs to be rectified
In the past few decades, church leaders that wanted to teach about sex and porn had great intentions to save people from the harms of sexual sin. However, the messaging often contained undertones of shame and guilt that led people into secrecy and addiction. This way of teaching became known as Purity Culture. There are beliefs from this era that have become ingrained in many of us that lead to lasting feelings of shame and guilt. Identifying the unintentional shame messaging from Purity Culture can give us a new freedom when talking about anything related to sex.We have victory!
Sin has consequences. We know that it does, yet we can feel like the consequences won't reach us. In reality, consequences happen instantly in the form of feeling shame, guilt, numb, or down. Other consequences may follow, too. It shows that we all have weaknesses and we all have a desperate need for a saviour. His name is Jesus and He will see us through every battle that we face, whether it's addiction, betrayal, abuse, or something else. Learn to lean into Him and practically live in His strength and peace.John Schools participants have varying concern
Kristen teaches in John Schools, which is were sex offenders go to get rehabilitated back into society. She sees people there who are simply putting the time in so they can get back into the lifestyle they had, but others really do experience freedom. A change for Kristen has been seeing the person beneath the sin, which offers a more grace-filled perspective than just seeing someone in major sin. People have hurts and wounds in them that lead to sinful behaviour, so when we can help someone identify and heal their hurts, porn use will naturally diminish.Share this with your friends
