133. Want To Beat Porn? Do The Opposite Of Your Impulses!
Welcome to episode #133! This week, Matt and Braden simplify things and talk about doing the exact opposite of what our impulses and desires are directing us towards (porn or masturbation).Respond vs React
A reaction to our emotion or circumstances is very impulsive and usually no thought is given as to why we are doing or feeling something. When we are struggling with a porn addiction, we are very reactive, and we have specific triggers that lead us down the same path over and over again. We go to porn or masturbation (or both), because we react to a situation or feeling and we become instinctual to that same behaviour to the point it becomes almost second nature. Btu when we learn to respond to our feelings or circumstances vs react, we become more self-aware and understand our triggers or the things that typically lead us back to looking at porn or feeling shame. Do the opposite
Our first impulses that lead us to look at porn can be an indicator for us of how we can better respond. For instance when we look at porn and feel shame after we are done, our first impulse can be to isolate or withdraw from accountability, healthy relationships or God. So if we do the opposite we work to build meaningful community and go to that first vs isolating or withdrawing. Maybe we need to consider how we react and learn from that and determine a better outcome by doing the opposite of our unhealthy impulse. Share this with your friends
