190. The Amazons: Honoring The Warrior Women of History and the Divine Warrior Goddess Within
Have you heard of Wonder Woman, daughter of the Amazons? Did you know that Wonder Woman, also known as Princess Diana, is a character whose origins derive from a real historical group of fierce warrior women, the Amazons? Today I will introduce you to the Amazon women, the goddess-worshipping tribes in North Africa, Anatolia and the Black Sea area. You will learn about the contested origin of their name, where the lived, how they thrived and some of their unforgotten feats, rituals and customs. I will be referring to Barbara G. Walker's "The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets," an impressive sourcebook that focuses on mythology, anthropology, religion, and sexuality to uncover precisely what other encyclopedias leave out or misrepresent. This episode is a reminder that the Divine Feminine is not all pretty, soft and cuddly... She is in fact also a warrior guided by Truth: a fierce protector and force of nature with unmatched endurance and inner strength. She is the heroine within us, the beautiful and fearsome mama bear, the vessel of life, beauty, art, truth and all the things worth living for! Let's never hesitate to connect with that fierce warrior spirit within us when we need Her!
