Academically Dark | Ruth Ware Interview
In this episode of the Love your Library podcast, we’re joined by bestselling author Ruth Ware to hear about her latest novel, The It Girl. A dark thriller full of unforeseen twists, The It Girl sees a decade-old murder case being reopened, and asks whether the testimony that closed it in the first place put an innocent man behind bars. We chat to Ruth about where the inspiration for this book came from, including the historic cities of Oxford and Edinburgh. We also speak to Ollie, a Library Team Assistant at Petersfield Library, about his recommended read, Small Gods by Terry Pratchett. A satirical look at the role of religion in political life, Small Gods follows the great god Om as he accidentally manifests himself as a lowly tortoise, stripped of all divine power but desperately in need of a religious following. Other books and authors that get a mention during the episode: A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting – Sophie Irwin Wordslut – Amanda Montell The Atlas Six – Olivie Blake Rivers of London – Ben Aaronovitch Fahrenheit 451 – Ray Bradbury Isaac Asimov Cat’s Cradle – Kurt Vonnegut Check out @hantslibraries on Instagram to see a selection of our favourite images from this year’s #Booktober photo challenge.
