The Clare County Chair of the ICMSA believes the €40 million drop in dairy revenue in this county will have a devastating effect on the rural economy. Analysis by the Irish Creamery and Milk Suppliers Association highlights a reduction of almost €2 billion in dairy farmers' revenues this year with milk revenue in Clare alone down by over €43 million. With the expected average milk price for this year down 22 cents per litre and milk production down 2% due to weather and price conditions, the ICMSA is calling on the Minister for Agriculture to introduce measures which will have a stabilising effect on the sector. Clare ICMSA Chair Martin McMahon says lower revenues for farmers means less money going into the local economy which will have a knock-on effect for everyone in rural Ireland.
