Does McLaren Have the Strongest Pairing on the Grid? | Japanese GP Preview | September 21, 2023
On this episode of Nailing The Apex, Tim Hauraney is joined from FanGraphs Michael Baumann to set up the Japanese Grand Prix, the technical directive that was introduced at the Singapore Grand Prix, could that hold Red Bull Racing Back (6:20). George Russell questioned Max Verstappen not getting a grid penalty for impeding Yuki Tsunoda during qualifying for the SingaporeGP, and is there an argument to be made that the FIA should have the same race stewards at ever grand prix weekend (10:20). Could Russell’s SingaporeGP crash do one of two things to him, make him next level race car diver, or sap his confidence for the rest of the season (19:57). Max Verstappen had said on Thursday that Lando Norris could be the favourite for this weekend’s race in Japan, and McLaren lock Oscar Piastri up till 2026. Lando Norris believes that McLaren’s driver lineup is the strongest on the grid (33:40). Zak Brown is all in on an 11th team to hit the F1 grid, and does not see it as diluting, but additive to the grid (42:51). Rumours swirling that AlphTauri’s driver lineup will be Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo for 2024, what does that mean for Liam Lawson, and does he take Logan Sergeants seat at Williams Racing (52:47).
