EP#38 | Bangla Podcast | Suparna Banerjee | Maoism in India
n India Maoism flourished as a struggle of marginalized groups, such as peasants and several indigenous peoples. While characterized by violent armed struggle and guerrilla warfare akin to other similar movements across the globe, Indian Maoism got its special character by taking the deep-rooted caste-division into account and marry it with the universal class-struggle. Suparna Banerjee, a sociologist based in Germany, explored the Maoist-dominated regions of rural India, documented her experience, and raised legitimate questions regarding the root of several pertinent issues in her new book titled "Maoists and Government Welfare: Excluding Legitimacy or Legitimising Exclusion?", which is an extension of her PhD thesis work done at University of Bonn. In this podcast she discusses this book, and other experiences regarding this.Suparna's academic page: https://www.researchgate.net/p....rofile/Suparna-Baner to the book: https://www.amazon.in/Maoists-Government-Welfare-Legitimacy-Legitimising/dp/0367704153/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2L3WMIFMD4L3A&keywords=suparna+banerjee&qid=1688137520&sprefix=suparna+banerjee%2Caps%2C245&sr=8-2Telegraph article on the book: https://www.telegraphindia.com..../my-kolkata/people/s Banerjee's contact: mail.suparnabanerjee@gmail.com
