Interesting Q & A + Labor Day Trivia
NPS Claim Information As previously discussed, the claims for National Prearranged Services contracts which were through Lincoln Memorial Life and that were being processed by the Receivership in Texas, are now being handled by the Missouri Insurance Guarantee Association. Below is the official letter announcing this change and giving you the needed contact information. Also, you can find the information regarding documents here: https://moiga.org/?p=2776 Note: As of this email, several of these documents on the Missouri Guaranty Association, still refer to the Receiver in Texas. MFDEA has contacted the Guaranty Association about this and they are in the process of changing them, but , in any case, do not send them to Texas! Send them to the Missouri Guarantee Association. Again, this is only for claims that would have gone to the Texas Receivership for Lincoln Memorial Claims. Claims on other contracts/policies that have been going to outside insurance companies that took over different books of business other than the Lincoln Memorial contracts will still be handled by them. One of the documents requested is a copy of the Death Certificate. As many of you know from hearing Don Otto's talks and classes, Missouri law states that it is technically illegal for anyone other than the state of Missouri to make reproductions of Death Certificates. This includes photocopies and scans. HOWEVER, way back when all of this was first going on, MFDEA alerted the Governor's office of this issue and the Governor issued an Executive Order that stated, for the sole purpose of making an NPS claim, the funeral home can make a copy of the death certificate. You then write the word "COPY" on the copy of the death certificate and you can then fax or email that copy (with the word "copy" on it) when making your claim. If you have any questions, call the Missouri Insurance Guaranty Association at: 573-634-8455. If you get their voicemail, be sure to leave a message and call-back number.
