Mark 7:1-23. The Heart of the Matter

There’s something about human nature that enjoys a list of do’s and don’ts. Give me a list of boxes to check, and I enjoy working through each one, because then I can feel good about myself once I’ve checked the box. But while this approach works really well for house projects and work tasks, it is a powerless tool when it comes to the Christian life. Rules don’t make you a better person. Rules can’t save. What is it that truly defiles us and makes us sinful before God? The heart of the matter is a heart matter. But thanks be to God that there is a heart-Transformer.
