Both Ohm and Octal Industries have long been at the forefront of the Dub-tinged Techno scene for multiple decades. The two artists hail from the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik, a place which has paved the way for Dub Techno for many years through the iconic Thule Records and its sub-label Æ Recordings, which the pair have also been involved in throughout the years. As well as this, Ohm & Octal Industries have released material on the likes of Rawax, Nilla, Luck Of Access, Taped Artifact and of course Lempuyang where they return here. Across the eight-track collection that makes up the ‘Northwest Passage’ LP, Ohm & Octal Industries offer up their signature dubbed-out, delicately nuanced style in various forms. Opening cut ‘Northern Exposure’, ‘Erebus’ and ‘Stratospheric Clouds’ embrace a loop-led, classic Dub Techno feel while the likes of ‘Nykur’, ‘Anguta’ and ‘Bára’ verge off into more textural realms with cinematic ambience and stripped-back drums. The pair also explore a more off-kilter rhythmic style with ‘Frumbyggjar’ and ‘Photokeatitis’, fusing broken rhythms with intricately intertwined synths and low-end pulsations, perfectly showcasing the depth of their style throughout.
