"Hesed" [Hosea 1:1]
By Pastor Jason LimHesed. It's a Hebrew word that means loyal or steadfast love. Psalm 136 is a song about the steadfast love of the Lord. And Hosea is a book about the loyal love of God despite Israel's unfaithfulness. Hosea is written to Israel and to us, the readers, to:1. Confront our RebellionThe number one problem of all humanity is that of sin. Hosea confronted Israel regarding her sin against God. They were unfaithful to Him, and have failed Him repeatedly. As such, Hosea warns of impending judgment. Today, the Bible confronts us about our sin, and of God's impending judgment too. 2. Call for RepentanceHosea was not written only to inform of sin, but to call Israel and us to repentance as well.Clearly, this represents a way back to God. It is not over for you. You can come back to God today! And it is a command you will have to obey (Acts 17:30).3. Comfort through RedemptionThough there is a threat of judgment for sinners, the Bible holds out the glorious hope of forgiveness and salvation. It will be accomplished through "David the King", which is a reference to the "Son of David" the Lord Jesus Christ. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.May you find comfort and true salvation through repentance and faith today
