Reading of "DC v. Heller": 2nd Amendment is INDIVIDUAL Right! (4/4)
today's show Attorney Andrew Branca reads part 4 of a 4-part reading of the 2008 US Supreme Court decision of DC v. Heller.Heller is the seminal Supreme Court decision written by the brilliant (now deceased) Justice Antonin Scalia, finding that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is an INDIVIDUAL right, and not merely a "right" of some government militia, and thus not subject to whimsical infringement by the Federal government. As a result, the then-existing laws of the District of Columbia (effectively, the Federal government) prohibiting the ownership by American citizens of handguns in the home was deemed unconstitutional. This reading of Heller concludes with this reading. Note that I am reading ONLY Justice Scalia's majority opinion, and not any dissent. After Heller, I will also do readings of the two other seminal Second Amendment decisions from the US Supreme Court, "McDonald v. Chicago" (2010) (majority only) and "New York State Rifle & Pistol Assoc. v. Bruen" (2022) (entire decision). You can read the entirety of DC v.
