Smart Tokens, Smart Layers & Open Loyalty - Exciting new use cases
โ ๏ธ Mind blowing insights ahead โ ๏ธ ๐ How open loyalty will enable dynamic partnerships and lots of value for users. ๐ Why tokens are the new digital primitive, similar to websites and mobile apps, that can live within a user's wallet as a super user agent. ๐ How tokenization and the integrated web is the next frontier in creating better user experiences and providing real world value. ๐Meet Brent For the current podcast episode I had the honor to interview Brent Annells. Brent is CMO at Smart Token Labs, a company that has been working on advanced tokenization for more than five years. Brent introduces the concept of smart tokens. Smart tokens are programmable tokens that operate like applications and thereby they are solving established integration problems in web 2.0 around large network experiences where customer experiences are at the heart of them. โ๏ธ Example 1: Travel โ๏ธ One example could be a travel experience where an airline ticket is issued as a token. This token can carry data like where the owner is traveling from and to, the date of travel, time of arrival, and membership status. Now it can be enhanced by carrying business logic and functions. If the flight changes or gets canceled, the token can dynamically update the hotel booking site, creating a better user experience. ๐ Example 2: Car Ownership ๐ Another exciting use case Brent presents is that of a car ownership token. If a car owner wants to become an Uber driver, they can use their smart car token to prove they have usage-based insurance to cover ride sharing. This allows the user to complete the Uber driver sign-up process without leaving the Uber website. The advantage for brands like airlines or car manufacturers to offer these tokens is that they can create a seamless experience for their customers, increasing brand affinity. This is seen as a better strategy than traditional loyalty programs, which often fail to deliver value to the end consumer. ๐ฆ๐บExample 3: Sports, Fans & Community๐ฆ๐บ And just one more amazing example is a project with cricket player Glenn Maxwell, where fans could sign up to a club called Catch Max. By creating a customized digital pass (akin to an NFT), fans receive a token stored in their browser or phone wallet, which gives them access to a range of rewards and experiences related to cricket. This is facilitated without requiring a crypto wallet or having to mint an NFT, reducing typical Web3 hurdles. At the same time this use case can also resolve issues related to privacy and data sharing. In this example fans can interact with sponsors like KFC, and decide whether they want to share their data. ๐ฅExciting times ๐ฅ This user-centric approach on the foundation of smart tokens removes up-front barriers in data sharing, making integration more nimble. It creates opportunities for more dynamic partnerships and open loyalty programs.
