Surah Luqman (لقمان‎) is the 31st chapter of the Qur’an and it consists of 34 verses.

This Surah teaches Muslims Tawhid and helps people understand meaninglessness of Shirk. It invites people in and gives them the chance to understand the truth and reasonableness of monotheism. The surah takes it’s name from a wise man named Luqman who dispenses advice to his son, verses 12-19.

It teaches that those who are following Shirk are only blindly following their forefathers. The true wisdom is to believe in Allah. It re-affirms gratitude and obedience to one’s parents as in other verses. The surah encourages kinship but s the last verse mentions, on the day of judgement they can’t save you. There’s individual and personal accountability to Allah that is of utmost priority.

“And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful. And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys.”
Surah Luqman Ayat 18-19

Reciter: Fatih Seferagic
