The Art of Being: A Conversation on Authenticity & Place featuring Jason Andrew Turner
Join us on this captivating episode of the BOLD CREATIVES COLLECTIVE PODCAST, as we embark on a thought-provoking journey with artist Jason Andrew Turner. Through his artistic odyssey, Jason shares his profound awareness of how surroundings have shaped his creative process. We delve into his college days at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where the rich environment of the deep South left an indelible mark on his work. Immersed in the Bible belt, he wove allegorical themes, exploring the realms of pharmaceuticals, mental health, and religion, resulting in an artistic identity forever connected to the region's rituals and practices. The winds of artistic destiny carried Jason to the vibrant city of Philadelphia, where brick-laden streets and a bustling urban landscape ignited a creative shift. The intensity of the city demanded a transformation, and his art gracefully adapted. Painting gave way to drawing, and repetitive lines emerged as a powerful element, mirroring the city's rhythm and pulse.New York City beckoned next, offering boundless energy and ceaseless inspiration. The city's never-ending pursuit of dreams fueled Jason's artistic process, infusing urgency into his creations. The result? An art form that fervently mirrored the city's relentless vibrancy.Yet, life's ebb and flow led Jason to a serene countryside haven, where time seemed to slow down, and tranquility enveloped him. In this idyllic environment, his art evolved once more, as energetic lines softened, and introspection emerged as a guiding force. The peace of the surroundings found expression on his canvas, revealing the profound connection between artist and place. As we unravel Jason's insightful journey, we're reminded of the undeniable bond between an artist and their environment. Just like planting a seed in fertile soil, artists flourish when their surroundings nurture their creativity, bringing forth unique and authentic perspectives that resonate with audiences.Jason Andrew Turner (he/they) (1982) is an artist currently based in rural North Carolina.
