The Criminalization of Black Resistance

Omavi Shukur is a Practitioner-in-Residence at the Columbia Center for Contemporary Critical Thought’s Initiative for a Just Society. He also holds an appointment as an Associate Research Scholar at Columbia Law. 
He examines how laws that criminalize resisting arrest harden white social dominance and deepen black racial subordination.
