Ep 037 ADHD Edition: How to Prioritise Your Work Week
I was a bit nervous about recording this week’s episode!I have ADHD myself and so do lots and lots of my clients.
For years (and way before I knew about my ADHD!), I have said that time management, time blocking or time planning doesn’t work the same for everyone.
I’ve studied human behaviour and Psychology for over 18 years and one of the things that has always been key is recognising individual differences and how we all have different needs.
Prioritising your work week with ADHD isn’t as straightforward as time blocking your social media engagement, or putting in a reminder to update your books and accounts… because if you don’t have the dopamine reward centre working in your brain, you’re very unlikely to do it!
So today, I’m sharing a number of things with you that you can start to think about to try to prioritise your work week in a way that feels better for you rather than trying to fit into a mould of what everybody else says you should be doing (which is probably more of a neurotypical perspective and guidance that's out there anyway!)
I want to acknowledge, I know this can be challenging, as I said, as I have ADHD too but there are some strategies that have really helped me and continue to help me to stay focused and productive, which is what I'm going to be sharing with you today.
Here are the highlights:
[01:29] Creating your own routine to manage your work week[03:09] The importance of leaving space when you time-block[04:17] Using to-do lists to manage your priorities with ADHD[05:00] Breaking tasks down to make them more achievable[06:31] Minimising distractions[08:28] Professional help to manage your ADHD
