EP298: Its Time to Boost your Business with Salon Owner & Business Coach, Leah Durrant
Today Im to be joined by salon owner and business coach, Leah Durrant. Leah is not only a successful hairdresser and salon owner, but she also has a brilliant head for business and uses her years of knowledge, expertise and experience to support salons to fulfil their own potential. As a single mother, Leah wants to break stereotypes and show that hairdressing can be a lucrative career with the right mindset and knowledge. In 2020, during the pandemic, Leah was inundated with messages from fellow salon owners and hairdressers asking for advice and guidance. This led Leah to train as a business coach so that she could further support salons to recover from the pandemic and work towards future growth. Recognising that many salon owners lacked basic business knowledge, Leah is all about helping and empowering others in the industry. The corner stone to this episode is addressing the challenges that salons are currently facing , including recovering from the pandemic, labor shortages and rising living costs. With financial struggles for many salon business, understanding your numbers, and setting the right prices has never been so important. When it comes to finding stylists or assistants, Leah is to share that by searching CVs and using social media and posters in local businesses have proven effective for her salon business. Also building connections with schools and colleges and offering apprenticeships has also been successful in attracting and retaining loyal employees. Leah’s clear message is, “We need to invest in apprentices and make it clear that there are job opportunities at the end of their training.” To wrap up the podcast, Leah advises us to invest in learning and working on our businesses , whether through a business coach or following experienced professionals who share valuable insights.
