Episode 117: The Trap that kills your marriage, and How to Change it
Marriage is hard work and after 31 years of marriage, I have experienced lots of highs and lots of lows, many disagreements and arguments. It’s not anything that had a lot of education on unless you witnessed a great marriage from your parents.
We stopped investing in our marriage and we were just “going through the motions." We lost our spark but to make a marriage work, it takes 100% commitment on both sides. In this episode, I walk you through 7 points to write down from my book, Unbecoming Her:
Regarding my husband, What am I upset about?
Identify the lens (a belief) you used to view this story, and ask, What have I been telling myself?
Remove the lens of your belief and put yourself in their shoes
What failed expectations do you have?
Are you ready to forgive? Yourself and your spouse?
Write out what your “ideal” marriage looks like.
Can you commit to fully “being” the person that embodied the qualities of your “ideal” marriage?
This is all about those in a marriage that seem to be in a funk, or going through the motions where you felt you may have lost that "spark". If you are experiencing abuse or anything harmful inside of your marriage, this episode may not be for you and could require seeking professional assistance.
