"Ray of Light" (1998): MADONNA - Track by Track Review | Diva Discography {Part 1}
In this episode, Angie and Steffi celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Madonna’s “Ray of Light” album. As we do in all of our Diva Discography episodes, part 1 is an in-depth review and discussion of EVERY SINGLE TRACK of the album. We then end our conversation sharing our Top 3 favorite songs from the album, 1 song we’d cut, and the underrated gem.Make sure you tune in next week for part 2 when we talk about Madonna’s Ray of Light era.Album Info: Ray of Light is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released in early 1998 by Maverick Records. A major stylistic and aesthetical departure from her previous work, Bedtime Stories, Ray of Light is an electronica and techno-pop record which incorporates multiple genres, including ambient, trip hop, art pop, psychedelic music and Middle Eastern music, while also seeing Madonna singing with greater breadth and a fuller tone. Mystical themes are also strongly present in both the music and lyrics, as a result of Madonna embracing Kabbalah, her study of Hinduism and Buddhism, and her daily practice of Ashtanga yoga.DIVA DAILIES SOCIAL MEDIA:Twitter | Instagram | TikTok*Email us for show notes: divadailiespod@gmail.comSTEFFI’S SOCIAL MEDIA:Twitter | Instagram | Tiktok | YouTube | LetterboxdANGIE’S SOCIAL MEDIA:Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | LetterboxdTIME STAMPS:- Housekeeping (02:00)- Listener Feedback (03:29)- Opening Discussions: Album Intro (25:03)- Opening Discussions: Our First Listening Experience & Initial Impressions (26:40)Track by Track Review - Drowned World/ Substitute for Love (35:47)- Swim (43:41)- Ray of Light (46:49)- Candy Perfume Girl (52:52)- Skin (56:55)- Nothing Really Matters (60:50)- Sky Fits Heaven (64:27)- Shanti/ Ashtangi (67:22)- Frozen (71:42)- The Power of Good-Bye (77:47)- To Have and Not to Hold (80:44)- Little Star (84:27)- Mer Girl (87:35)Rapid Fire Round - Top 3 Fave Songs (94:53)- 1 Song to Cut (96:11)- Underrated Gem (96:34)- Closing Thoughts (97:13)
