John, Chapter 13 - The Lord’s Supper13 Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that His hour had come that He would depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.-          Now before the Feast of the Passover (celebration of the death angel passing over their doors because of the blood of the lamb on their door post – a picture of the cross)-          Jesus knowing that His hour had come (time is up – it’s time to show the world the true Messiah and Savior)-          That He would depart from this world to the Father (leaving here; going there)o   Notice the confirmation of both locations-          Having loved His own who were in the world (Jesus loved His own)-          He loved them to the end (even unto death)o   Thank God Jesus loves us in spite of ourselves 2 And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had handed all things over to Him, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4 *got up from supper and *laid His outer garments aside; and He took a towel and tied it around Himself.-          And during supper (the last supper), the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon (listen, hearing) to betray Himo   Judas listened to the devil and was to betray Jesus and Jesus knew it-          Jesus, knowing that the Father had handed all things over to Him (Jesus had all knowledge and power to do what He wanted too)-          And that He had come forth from God and was going back to God (notice this, Jesus knew where He was from and where He was going; how about you?)-          Got up from supper and laid His outer garments aside (maybe a picture of how He would also cast his flesh aside)-          And took a towel and tied it around Himself (maybe like a white robe, a picture of how He would be clothed in heaven)Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet5 Then He *poured water into the basin, and began washing the disciples’ feet and wiping them with the towel which He had tied around Himself.-          And began washing the disciples feet and wiping them with the towelo   Maybe a picture of how Jesus washes away our sin by casting off his outer garment (dying on the cross) and then helping wash us from heaven 6 So He *came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, You are washing my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing, you do not realize right now, but you will understand later.” 8 Peter *said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no place with Me.”-          So He came to Simon (to listen, to understand, and respond) Peter (a rock or stone)-          You are washing my feet? (Peter felt unworthy)-          Jesus answered “What I am doing, you do not realize right now, but you will understand later” (when? When Peter understands that Jesus was showing His disciples that He would die, cash off His outer garment, but rise again and put on a white robe and save His people)Welcome to the Outbless Weekly bible study hosted by bible teacher and humber servant Michael Metcalf Thank you for listening to The Outbless weekly bible
